Makaton
At Sea Mills Primary School, we want to support every child in their journey to becoming a skilled communicator. In order to ensure that each child can express themselves independently we use Makaton as a way- to support early communication. Makaton supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.
In the EYFS rooms we use Makaton daily to support the children’s communication as well as while singing songs and telling stories. To help the children and adults to learn some of the signs we use we are introducing ‘Makaton sign of the week’.
A new sign will be available every Friday for you to watch, learn and teach to your child by incorporating it into your routine. Many of these signs are familiar words that you use every day! Whilst using Makaton always be sure that when you are signing a word, you say the word that you are signing at the same time!
