Be Kind, Be Brave, Be your best

British Values

At Sea Mills British Values are reinforced regularly and in particular through the teaching of Core Learning Skills (CLS).

Democracy

Each year the children decide on the rules they want the children in their class to abide by.

The children all take part in a class vote to elect their School Learning Council representatives.  The elected children then attend meetings termly to discuss issues raised by them or other children within the school.  The SLC work on various projects and suggest improvements to the school and its environment.

The Rule of Law

Children are taught from an early age the rules at Sea Mills.  These rules feed into our Behaviour for Learning policy.  Pupils are taught the reasons we have rules and understand that there are consequences when rules are broken.  We also have visits from authorities such as the Police and Fire Service to help reinforce this message.

Individual Liberty

Children are encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment.  They are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms.  They are then given opportunities to discuss how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety lessons or visits to the Lifeskills centre.

Respect and Tolerance

Respect is one of our core values here at Sea Mills.  All members of the school community treat each other with respect.  We actively promote diversity through our celebrations of different faiths and cultures.  Visiting speakers help children understand issues such as race discrimination and personal safety. Through religious education children are taken to visit places of worship and members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school.
