Be Kind, Be Brave, Be your best

PHSE (Personal, Social and Health Education)

Our Intent

We believe that all children should have the knowledge and skills to lead confident, safe, healthy and independent lives.  Children at our school will understand how to be a good friend and will respect and celebrate differences and diversity, especially protected characteristics.  We also aim to develop self-confidence and self-esteem in all children to ensure they can make informed decisions regarding personal and social issues.

Our Approach

We teach PSHE every week in a discrete lesson and key themes are also interwoven across other subjects throughout the week.  We use 1decision PSHE to resource and inform our teaching and teachers also respond regularly to the needs of their class in their planning.  We use a range of different activities such as whole-class discussions, role play or circle time for children to share ideas and reflect on issues that have been raised in class.  Relationship and Sex Education (RSE), Anti-Bullying and Keeping Safe are examples of topics taught during the year; all topics are taught at an age-appropriate level. When appropriate, we invite outside agencies, such as the school nurse, PCSOs or SARI, to support with whole-class discussions.

For further information on how PHSE is taught in your child’s class, please visit their class page to view their overview of learning for this term, take a look at the yearly overview on this page or come and see us.
