​Piano and Singing Lessons

Every Monday, Beth Wyn-Jones offer piano and singing lessons for all year groups. The children have the opportunity to use keyboard and/or learn to sing. In the piano lessons, children cover a variety of material in groups from Mary Had A Little Lamb to Dance Monkey! Each child has their own keyboard and set of headphones so they are able to work at their own pace. At the end of each lesson, there are opportunities to perform what they have been working on to the rest of the group. Through each term, the children will also cover the basics of music theory and composition.

In singing lessons, children learn about pitch, harmony, technique and performance. They cover a wide variety of genres from pop to musical theatre. Beth is always happy to take song suggestions from students. Working in a group setting provides a great opportunity to learn to work together as a team, learning how to balance voices, harmonise and choose solos.

Beth aims for all lessons to be fun and engaging to cultivate a love of music as well as building their knowledge!

​Drum lessons

Every Tuesday, Luke offers to teach drum to children in our school. Luke is a performing musician and teacher of 14 years. He has played at festivals such as Boomtown, Nozstock and Cheltenham Jazz. Luke studied at the Royal Welsh of Music and Drama and now teaches in multiple schools with Gloucester Academy of Music and Gwent Music. Luke also composes music for his solo project ‘Braqkin’ and performs at Bristol venues such as Thekla and Mr Wolfs.

Woodwind lessons

Every Friday, Fiona Thompson offers woodwind lessons (flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone or oboe) to KS2 children. Fiona studied Music at the University of Bristol and then did a Masters in Performance on the flute at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Since 2014, she has taught at many different schools in Bristol and the surrounding area and also teaches privately from home. She continues to practise the flute for her own enjoyment and is often asked to play with various Bristol based orchestras. Fiona is a friendly and encouraging teacher who is flexible and aims to meet the needs of every individual pupil. She loves helping each pupil find ways of improving their playing, whatever their standard.
